Whitesel Music first opened its doors in 1948 as a Church Organ and Victrola Record Player Store. Norman Whitesel offered lessons and all the teaching material to go along with it. Mr. Whitesel also had a library of sacred and classical records for sale. He then expanded to offer band instrument rentals and sales. The original store's location was in Gaithersburg, MD. He later moved the store to Harrisonburg, VA, the heart of the Shenandoah Valley. You could find anything from a 9' Grand Piano to a Kazoo at Whitesel Music.In the 70's, Mr. Whitesel partnered with Carroll Motsinger, an ordained minister and businessman. Their goal was to serve the church communities music worship needs.Today, Mr. Motsinger's grandson, Joshua Dove, owns and operates Whitesel Music. He resides in Harrisonburg, VA and consults with customers in the comfort of their own churches or at the showroom in Harrisonburg, VA. Mascioni Pipe Organs Since 1829

Whitesel Music has the distinct honor and privilege of being the United States Representative for Mascioni Pipe Organ Builders of Italy. Early last century Northern Italy was under Napoleonic domain. Napoleon Bonaparte issued a decree by which he established the suppression of all religious orders. The history of the company roots back right to this time when two brothers and monks, Pasquale and Giuseppe Mascioni, were forced to take refuge at the foot of the Alps, in Cuvio, their hometown located in a green valley crossed by the stream Boesio which flows into Lake Maggiore. The two brothers inspired their nephew to become an organ master and so they sent him to study with the musician Pietro Della Valle. Years went by and the younger Mascioni learned the secrets of the craft: in 1829 he founded the organ factory "Giacomo Mascioni". After winning a name in the area in 1869 he made the first organ for a foreign country, Switzerland, in the Bernese Juras. Upon Vincenzo Mascioni's death, his sons (Giacomo, Ernesto, Giovanni, Angelo, Vincenzo and Tullio) took over the business and the company continued to grow. In the 70's the organ production modified its standards of style. In order to meet the requirements of a new generation of organ players , models of the past were updated. Since those years, mechanical tracker-action organs have been built and old instruments restored. Nowadays Ernesto's sons and grandsons (Eugenio, Enrico and Mario, Andrea and Giorgio) carry on the business, so that the Mascioni's can continue in their sixth generation. From projecting to building, Mascioni guarantees total quality not only through new technological machinery and a well organized method of production; but also by keeping a close collaboration with specialists and taking part in technical workshops held by the International Society of Organbuilders.

All Yamaha and Kawai Pianos purchased from Whitesel Music are meticulously reconditioned by our 3rd generation rebuilder, Yohei Mase. Yohei and his family are originally from Hamamatsu, Japan, where Yamaha and Kawai International Headquarters are both located. Before reconditioning pianos for Whitesel Music, Yohei's team built pianos for the manufacturer in Hamamatsu. Every square inch of these vertical and grand pianos are brought back to their original like new condition, inside and out.
